Visiting the LGI Research Archive
We are located on the University of Arizona campus, just south of Speedway and just west of Campbell. LGIRA is on the 3rd floor of the Transitional Office Building (1731 East 2nd Street, Tucson, AZ), a long, three-story brick building directly across from Hillenbrand Stadium.
When classes are in session, parking on campus can be difficult. Your best bet is to locate one of the several parking garages on campus, then walk, roll, or take the streetcar from there.
There is metered street parking (accepts most debit and credit cards, and is also payable through paybyphone) directly in front of the Transitional Office Building (TOB), and there is often an open spot outside of regular business hours and when school is not in session.
There are many permit-based lots near TOB, including one directly behind it. These are lots are routinely patrolled and cars without permits will be ticketed. That said, these lots have posted hours, so if you come during a time when the permits are not being enforced, take advantage of them.
There are several Accessible Parking spaces near TOB (marked on the map below), though it should be noted that the LGIRA is unfortunately on the 3rd floor of a building with no elevator. If you are interested in visiting the LGIRA but have trouble negotiating stairs. let us know. There is a conference room on the first floor of the building and we can easily arrange to have a variety of artifacts brought downstairs.
Finally, our building does have two special parking permits for visitors that allow them to park in the lot behind TOB. These permits are in very high demand and are available on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to find out if one of the permits is available for your visit, let us know.
Here is a map of nearby parking options. “V” indicates visitor street parking, buildings with diagonal lines are large parking garages, and the blue icons indicate Accessible Parking spaces. Note: TOB is on the right side of the map toward the middle. Look for Hillenbrand Stadium—we are across the street.
